six-prompt character challenge

I was tagged by Fin for this awesome challenge! Thankee, Fin!

First off, here is a description of this tag and how to do it.

“How this tag works:

I have six brief questions/prompts that I will be answering for three of my main characters. You can change this number, of course, and even change the prompts if you like, so long as they are the same for each character. The point is to compare your characters’ differences and similarities.

A bit of explanation:

The first prompt asks for a ‘contradiction.’ In case you start wondering what this means, it’s basically this: every important character in your story should have something contradictory or seemingly inconsistent about their personality. We see this with people in real life, and it’s the mark of a rounded, three-dimensional character.

Note that this is probably the hardest of the prompts, so don’t worry if it takes some deep thinking. But please consider: if you can’t find any contradiction at all in your character’s personality, it’s probably a sign you need to develop him/her a little more. So, it’s a good exercise to do, no matter what. 🙂

The second prompt asks for a Meyers-Briggs personality type. If you’re unsure what type your character is, you can take the test on their behalf here.

Also, the fourth prompt asks how your character would slay a dragon. This is purely hypothetical; there are no dragons in my book, for example, so the prompt can be applied to any genre you want!”

The images of my characters ended up slightly blurry, and for that I apologize. Now here we go!

clev irking, the cyborg who sees ghosts and tells lies.

Contradiction: He lies to the person he trusts most.
MTBI personality type: The test says INFJ, which does seem about right.
Favorite color(s): He can’t really decide. Sometimes it’s mahogany, sometimes silver, sometimes a really pale yellow. Most of the time it’s mahogany.
How would he slay a dragon?: He’d . . . well, honestly, he’d just look at his ghosts for help and do what they tell him to.
His darkest secret: It’s not quite a dark secret, but he still sees ghosts and believes they’re real despite having told his best friend that he doesn’t.
Where does he see himself in ten years?: Still installing and repairing cybernetic parts, making a decent living and perhaps now having a place of his own to live. He imagines his best friend will have moved on to do amazing stuff without him.

melainie merker, self-proclaimed queen of sarcasm and hair-bows.

Contradiction: She likes to be formal, but sometimes she can be a complete goofball.
MTBI personality type: ESTP, which actually fits perfectly. The description says “whether a shift in facial expression, a new clothing tyle, or a broken habit, people with this personality type pick up on hidden thoughts and motives where most types would be lucky to pick up anything specific at all” which is very very accurate for Mela.
Favorite color(s): All types of green. Seafoam green, forest green . . .  everything.
How would she slay a dragon?: She’d probably provoke the dragon with taunts, distracting it so she’d be able to slay it easily. If the dragon wasn’t provoked, she’d come up with an elaborate, sneaky plan.
Her darkest secret: She couldn’t save her little sister.
Where does she see herself in ten years?: She sees herself back home, having made plenty of important scientific discoveries. This question is slightly complicated by spoilers that I won’t mention . . .

kesslyn-pickesslyn howard. just kesslyn howard.

Contradiction: She hates wasting people’s time, so she doesn’t use many words to express herself and she’s always punctual. However, she hates it when people call her Kess or Kessie because that makes her feel like they think she’s not worth their time.
MTBI personality type: She also got INFJ, which makes sense since she and Clev do share some qualities, although they each show them in different ways. It seems to fit Kesslyn better, though. Especially this part: “though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in.”
Favorite color(s): Purple and orange, especially together.
How would she slay a dragon?: She’d spend weeks researching dragons, finding their weaknesses and strengths, and use those to come up with a simple plan.
Her darkest secret: There’s a certain treehouse incident she’d like to discuss . . .
Where does she see herself in ten years?: Sometimes she sees herself stuck with her family, and sometimes as far away as she can get. Hopefully having done something important with her life, but she doesn’t think she can do anything, at least not so soon.
